On behalf of the faculty and staff, I want to welcome you to the McDonogh 42 Elementary Charter School website.
McDonogh 42 is a wonderful place to teach and learn. We embrace the new school year with its opportunities and challenges. Our dedicated teachers and staff work closely with our students in bringing quality education to each boy and girl. Our school-wide efforts are directly aligned to Louisiana’s state standards with numerous provisions for enrichment and creativity. Character education and the integration of the arts and technology throughout the curriculum are of paramount importance at McDonogh 42. We are proud of our commitment to student achievement and look forward to future success.
I join the entire staff at McDonogh 42 in thanking all of you for the opportunity to work with your students and family. We believe that children will be more successful students when the school and the parents are working as partners. Our entire school community is encouraged to work together to ensure that McDonogh 42 remains a wonderful place to learn, live, and love.

Marion M. Johnson is an experienced principal who led Florence Chester Elementary School for nine years before accepting the leadership position at McDonogh 42 Elementary Charter School. While at Chester, his school maintained accreditation with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. His school was recognized for Exemplary Academic Growth one year and exceeded the state’s attendance level on several occasions. Prior to that assignment he worked at various school sites for twenty years including ten years teaching Kindergarten. He is a graduate of Xavier Preparatory High School. At Xavier University he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood. He has a Master’s degree in Education from the University of New Orleans. He is married to Elaine Johnson, a Reading Coach at Craig Elementary School. They have two sons. Mr. Johnson is also a former member of the United States Marine Corps.
